Increase in travel to Southern Europe by Finns in 2014

03.07.2015

According to a study by Statistics Finland, Finns made 7.9 million overnight leisure trips abroad in 2014. Trips to southern Europe grew in popularity.

Estonia and Sweden are the most popular travel destinations for Finns. Trips to Spain, and the Canary Islands in particular, increased. Finns also travelled increasingly to Italy and Greece.

The most important vaccines for travellers are the same basic immunisations that should be kept up to date even in Finland. They include the tetanus, diphtheria, polio and MMR vaccines as well as the influenza vaccine. The MMR vaccine covers measles, mumps and rubella. Even those travelling to nearby regions should get the Hepatitis A vaccine and the influenza vaccine. Tick-borne encephalitis is commonly found in regions including the Swedish archipelago. Read more about vaccinations for travellers
